No royalty on my latest trip to Reno, and I totally bombed in the video poker tournament, but I also made a prophetic comment there ... one fellow was lamenting that he hadn't hit a quad in either session (as I hadn't), and I asked if he'd rather hit in the tournament or on the floor ... we both agreed on the answer<g>.

Reno just ain't Vegas, I was actually bored on most of my weekend because this was the third trip to Nevada in 4 weeks - worse yet, the weather was cold & rainy, so I didn't even do my usual strolls. I could have gone to Greg London's ICON show, but I've already seen him twice, and I didn't want to drive out to Sparks to see Travis Tritt cuz I was bored enough to be over-served on adult beverages.

However, there was one rather bright spot. I wandered downstairs to play a token $40 through the $BP machine on my way to brunch, but the machine just didn't know how to play bonus poker that morning<g> ... I didn't get two pair at all, and it kept throwing three-of-a-kind and then quad 3s, so I switched to DDB and collected a W2G for Aces + kicker about 2 minutes later .. continued on to a nice champagne brunch, then went back and kept robbing the same bank of machines. LOL, I think I got every combo possible, except the progressive Royal! I also collected enough Harrah's brownie points that I'm only 500 short of Diamond status for next year.

The trip may have been boring, but it was also my most lucrative trip - knocked the 1990 Vegas trip clear off the board.

Nice win! I know your not normally a DDB player, any chance you will be a DDB convert from your normal bonus play status? You got to admit, DDB is a lot more exciting when your hitting those quads!

Lee, to answer your question - probably not. In fact, I'll probably be moving back more toward quarter play for the rest of the year. I moved to the $BP to build up those Harrah's brownie points, and I can coast my way to Diamond this year - so I feel very free to play machines with the best odds (or where the spirits guide me<g>).

At Harrah's Reno, I'll probably keep playing $BP because they give better odds there than on the quarter machines. If you noticed the total score on that machine, I was going to switch back to BP when I got down to 800 credits.

LOL, I haven't checked out EVERY video poker machine at Harrah's Las Vegas properties<g>, but the majority of the dollar pay tables I've found suck compared to Reno .. and give no advantage over quarter play. Why move up? It's entertainment. Paris is supposed to have some 8/5 $BP, but I sure couldn't find it on my last trip.

I might put in some dollar play at Sam's since they have some good pay tables, but they also have quarter 8/5 BP (progressive), FPDW, 10/7 DB and 10/6 DDB. Why move up & risk more money for crappier odds?
