Has anyone eaten here? I've seen some recommendations on other boards. Just wondering.

Yes I have. On several occasions. I enjoyed them all. I love the decor with it's old Vegas charm. It has a lot of comfy round booths as well as some tables. Most of the booths are labeled as the booths of some of the stars of the strip from long ago. There's a lot of black and wood in the decor that work well with a steakhouse. It's not a cheap steakhouse at all. And they probably don't have the very finest prime meat on the strip. They do have very good steaks that taste good. Also in the old Vegas charm catagory, when you first walk in, they a friendly old Vegas style bar.

I usually have a caesar salad there before dinner because they make it tableside correctly. That's a big plus. I've only had two steaks from the menu. I've had the prime rib and NY steak. I'm kinda partial to prime rib, but they have (or had) a huge NY steak on the menu that made me order it time and time again.

I think most steaks are in the $30-50 range and up. If you have any specific questions, I might have an answer. It has been several months since my last visit. The did drop a notch or two when the original owner died a few years ago. I've heard good and bad reports. My experiences were always good.

BTW, The Golden Steer is located on Sahara, in a little strip mall behind the Worlds Largest Gift Shop. The immediate surrounding area seems a little seedy. Parking can be challenging at prime times since the little strip mall doesn't have many spaces out front. Most of the parking is on the side.

I kinda liked the look of the place. Thanks for the info.
I also like a good Ceasars salad. I have Celiac disease so I have to be careful with some prepared dressings.

Another place I heard about was Cafe de Amore? It's suppose to have a singer and will pick you up in a Limo from your hotel.

I'm missing old Vegas. When they comped a lot more and had more customer service.

It all started when the big corporations took over and cut out the middle person. The girl you purchased the coins from would point you in the direction of a hot slot.

The cocktail waitresses didn't have to hike 2 miles in stilletos to get the drinks.

Oh well, so goes life.

Sounds like Casa Di Amore? There's a few places that offer limo service. I would be skeptical on timing and availability.

If it is Casa Di Amore, I've heard good things but haven't been there yet. It's still on my to do list. I bought a $25 gift certificate for the place on eBay for $15 to encourage me to go.

I think you would have liked that thing at the Clark County building I went to on Friday. One gal said things went bad when they had to make a profit on the olive.

BTW, when I try Casa Di Amore, it will still be a mystery as I am not a good judge of Italian food.

Bette Midler was recently on "Regis and Kelly" and apparently said this is her favorite restaurant to eat at in Las Vegas.

I'm heading to Vegas this week with my friends Justin and Charlie. Charlie loves "old Vegas" spots and wants to eat here so we made a reservation.

Justin is a bit hesitant since our last experience with an "old Vegas" steakhouse was the steakhouse at Circus Circus which was a disaster.

I'm hoping for the best!

Mike, you are about the only person on this board I would not recommend The Golden Steer to. I think that you are so spoiled by top tier steakhouses, that it can't stack up. Also, you seem to be the kind of guy that likes a melt in your mouth filet. Most of the steaks I like are ones that tender but have a texture that reflects the muscle structure of that cut of meat.

I do think this place ranks very high as a second tier steakhouse. One of the things I like is that the steaks "seem" like they came off the grill. Most of the top tier steaks taste like they were under a broiler for sear then baked to perfection.

I think Charlie might rank it pretty high on Old Vegas charm. I'm sure you will all have a good meal. I just worry that it won't stack up for you.

Thanks, JMT. I'm always willing to try new things and can pretty much roll with the punches - I'm still planning to go. But it's JUSTIN I'm worried about!
