Prior to the Zowie Bowie show, I ate dinner at the new Hard Rock Cafe on the strip. It's near the big Coke bottle. Since I was already at the Monte Carlo, it was convenient, being right across the street. OTOH, it's not really convenient to just stop in unless you are on foot. The gift shop is on the street level, the cafe and bar with outside tables is on the second floor, and I assume banquet rooms and private rooms are on the 3rd level.
I spent my time on the second level. They have a lot of artifacts on the walls as might be expected. This high tech cafe has lots of interactive LCD screens. They have them on the walls, they have them on tables, and they have them in the booths. On these interactive screens, you can browse artifacts, you can flirt with other people at other booths, you can vote on songs to play, etc. The place is pretty nice. It has a high ceiling and doesn't feel crowded. At least not on this Sunday night.
Service is good if not over done. All during the hiring process, they advertised that they wanted energetic and outgoing people. My server was just that. All I really wanted was a waiter. What I got was a guy that felt it was his job to entertain me. His other job is working for KA, where he is one of the guys that bugs the audience before the show. In fact, all of the Hard Rock employees there were overly friendly quizzing me on where I was from, where I was born, when did I move here, what did I do, what shows did I see, showing me where Brian's guitar was hanging, where the bathrooms were, telling me their life story, etc.
As to be expected, the food was good and overpriced. I had their famous/traditional/signature/whatever burger. It was 10 ounces, compared to their standard 7 ounce burger. It is cooked medium well according to the menu. In reality it is cooked well done. It has grill marks covering 100% of the burger. It is thoroughly charred all over. You could actually scrape carbon dust from anywhere on the patty. It tasted okay though. The brownie sundae was okay also. It's not a $27 meal that I want to revisit, although it was an interesting one time experience. Typical Hard Rock Cafe, with added interactive devices and a little classier decor than most others I've been to.
