I have sad news for all of you. Wendel Price passed away last night, 16 November. Maxine kept him going till the ambulance arrived but his heart just gave out. Susan and I have lived next door to them for over 35 years.

Thank You John. Wendell was a very generous man and a great member of the TalkVegas community. He will be missed very much. If there is anything we can do for Maxine, please let us know. His enthusiasm for Las Vegas was amazing.

Thanks again for letting us know. I know you lost a special friend too.

Thank you for letting us know John.

Wendell was a fun man to be around (and I only got to meet him a few times, I can only imagine how nice it would to be his friend). I will always appreciate He and Maxine taking a whole afternoon out of their lives to show me their home town.

Maxine, my thoughts are with you. Please accept my sympathies.

John thank you for letting us know - it was a real privildge to know Wendell - what a sweet, sweet man.

From my first meeting when he showed up as an unexpected "surprise' visitor at my first ever TalkVegas meet, through sharing several thanksgiving dinners at the Loft - one with you and Susan - to the last November meet I was able to make, in 2007.

Loved to see him revel in the company of those around him at those meets, and loved seeing how he would get a tear in his eye and choked up a bit when making a toast to everyone.

Please - please let Maxine know that David and I send our love and prayers.

I am sitting here next to my packed suitcase, heading to Las Vegas in the morning. Somehow that seems appropriate - you know that many a glass will be raised in honor of the Prices this week and next.

Thank you, John. I'm so sorry, and I know you'll miss Wendell as you were such good friends and neighbors. Please give our deepest sympathy to Maxine, and a hug, too.
We had dinner at the Orleans Buffet last Saturday, as we were going to a show there, thought of Wendell and Maxine, and actually had a little toast to them. I'm sorry now that I didn't post that on Sunday.
Laine, and Toby

Hi Becky, We all know special Las Vegas was to Wendell. We also know that there were two things that were even more special to him. His friends and his family.

Oh what terrible news! I don't know what more I can add that hasn't already been expressed here. Wendell was so warm and welcoming to both Sharon & I. His love of Vegas and this little group at Talkvegas was ever present at every meet. He will be very sadly missed.
Maxine, & Family our deepest sympathies.

We all have so many memories of Wendell; there really aren't too many of my favorite places in Las Vegas that I can visit without remembering the good times I had there with Wendell and Maxine. I took a photo journey last night, starting with the San Antonio gathering where I first met Wendell - a gathering that started with lunch at noon and didn't break up until after dinner about 9:30 pm! We spent most of the afternoon at Martinis bar on the Riverwalk. smile

Kestral mentioned meeting Wendell when he was a surprise guest at her first meet - well, there were two surprise guests there since I also sneaked into town for the occasion. The funniest part was Maxine knew both of us would be there to meet Kestral, but (to put it in her own words) she has no problem letting other people mind their own business. Wendell & I were always pulling gags on each other, but she had a good laugh on both of us that time!

One other photo brought back gag memories - when I sneaked my two nephews into town, and they strolled into the Orleans pool area, where Wendell was relaxing in isolation - and two rather large young men climbed into the hot tub saying "Good morning, Wendell." You can only imagine the look on his face until they identified themselves as the Deuces. I had inside help on that one, so when Wendell went back to the room, he only got as far as "do you know what just happened to me?" - Maxine was again laughing when she replied "yes, I know!"

We had another gag planned - we all know about Wendell's green kimono, and I had picked up a pink kimono on my last trip to San Francisco. The plan was for DaisyDeuces to surprise Wendell in the hot tub - well, I'm not exactly promising to stroll into Brendan's in a pink kimono Tuesday, but I do believe Wendell's spirit will be looking down and laughing with us at what will always be known as Wendell's Thanksgiving Meet. smile

I've posted the photos at www.MySpace.com/rxpaladin - just click on the "photos" link to the right of my profile photo, select the "Wendell" album and then click on the individual photos to start a slide show format. I hope that you will enjoy the memories as much as I did.

This is very bad news. I will always remember Wendell and Maxine welcoming Terry and I to the Thanksgiving meet and right away he made you feel like you were long lost friends. He was such a great guy. My condolences to Maxine and all you long time talkvegas regulars who knew Wendell so well and must be hurting at this news.

John W - Thank you for letting us know.

Becky - My sympathies to you and your family. Wendell was a great man and it was largely because of him that I met most of my friends here on TalkVegas. I hope you are left with many fond memories of him.

Please extend my deepest sympathies to Maxine and let her know she is in my thoughts.

Mike

What a shock to hear the news about Wendell. My thoughts and prayers
are with Maxine and the rest of Wendell's family. God we are going to miss him and his stories and sense of humor. I'm glad and feel blessed that I did have the pleasure of meeting and knowing Wendell through the TV group.

I guess I need to back off on my exercise and running and get back on the computer some more and read ALL the news here. I missed this post and didn't know about Wendell's passing until I went to the TV meet today and they were talking about it...what a shock that was.

Wendell, Old Buddy may you RIP but I can still hear your long winded speeches that you will forever be remembered for.
