This is not your dad's grilled cheese. Wait a minute, it is. Really! At least by name. Take the glut of gourmet, build your own, exotic, burger joints and replace the burger with a grilled cheese. Yep, design your own grilled cheese.

This place is located in a strip mall at Hacienda and Decatur, not far from the Orleans. The place is clean and prices are reasonable. You can have a nice grilled cheese meal for under $10. The location, price, and concept probably cater to the local more than the average tourist.

You get to choose from 7 different breads and 10 different cheeses for starters. One bread and one cheese option costs $3.69 Then there are an assortment of predesigned versions with various additions up to a philly cheesesteak version for $8.99. Or you can custom design your own grilled cheese with toppings such as chorizo, bacon, mushrooms, olives, tomato, pastrami, and more. For $2 extra, they will give a more generous serving on a grilled hoagie roll.

For the dinner special, they have mac and cheese specials that come plain, with marinara, or add meatballs or sliced hot dog.

For dessert, they have a variety of cream cheeses between chocolate pound cake slices, grilled in butter and drenched in chocolate.

Maybe this isn't your dad's grilled cheese.

I love grilled cheese sandwiches. I think exploring the different choices for stuffing the sandwich could be fun and very interesting. The mushrooms sounds like a good start!

I made an error in the location and changed my original post. After further review, the place is located in a strip mall on Decatur at Hacienda. Still, it's not far from the Orleans.

Earlier report of being at the Harmon intersection was incorrect. So it's a little further south than originally posted.

While thinking about Lee's $51 grilled cheese dinner, I drove by this place. Sadly, it has closed.
