   Legends In Concert
   Legends In Concert

I broke down and saw Legends In Concert at Harrah's. I know this show is popular with a lot of people. The music was okay. The imitations were of Jay Leno as the announcer, with Cher, Michael Jackson, Elvis, and Aretha Franklin. I thought the show would feature 10 or more different impersonations. I guess I was wrong.

I'm wrong on a lot of aspects of stage impersonations. I guess if you have a good costume, can sing anywhere around average, and over exaggerate the traits of the person you are imitating, you have a show. Just pick the most popular songs where you are most likely to touch a touch a heartstring. The Jay Leno guy couldn't stay in character for more than 15 seconds...a la Danny Gans. The Cher was a better comedian than the Jay. Having never been a Michael Jackson fan, I found that creepy. This town is overloaded with Elvi. I thought the Aretha was horrible. I thought the band and dancers showed more talent than the main actors. (remember costumes and song selection are not talent)

While it's not my cup of tea, I kinda get it. Everything is familiar. There are several acts in small batches. The music is live. It's hard to get bored. The entertainment factor is high.

Yes, I see several shows where people aren't playing themselves or their original works. Most of them are oozing with talent on many different levels. Jersey Boys, Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack, Lena or Louis Prima Jr to name a few.

I would have a hard time recommending Legends. OTOH, if you like it, feel free to brag about it. For me, it's one more reason to stay out of Harrah's.

I've always been curious about this show but could never bring myself to go see it. After this review, I doubt I ever will!

I'm not big on impersonator shows of any kind. This one has been around for a long time, so I would expect it to be better then the average. From JMT's review I am guessing I was wrong with a capital W!
The Jackson thing being creepy? I don't know, I think I'd take a chance letting the impersonator watch my child, more so, then the real MJ! LOL

This all brings me back to my old rant "see them before they are dead!" I've been disappointed with some of the old singers and comedians I have seen late in there carriers, but never sorry! Old Jokes and songs got to be old jokes and songs because they where good! M2C

I found the website for this show. They have it in several different states. It seems as though the entertainers travel around to mix things up and make sure the public sees a different show no matter when or where they see it.

As I said, it is big on entertainment. It has glitz, lights, dancers, live music, live singing, stage production, etc. It's just far from my cup of tea.

When I went in September the acts were Jerry Lee Lewis who was very entertaining and different than the others because he played an instrument and did it so well. The Michael Jackson guy was more dancing and crotch grabbing than singing, Bette Midler was about what you described for Cher and the Elvis was not very good except when he did a version of "My Way". There was no Jay Leno that night.

We are going to Windsor for the weekend and have tickets to see Neil Sedaka. We are going for the very reason Lee pointed out.

As far as impersonators go when you think about it the show "Human Nature", which is hugely popular, is really an impersonator show as they sing all old Motown music but I guess because they do a number of different groups and perform for an hour and a half it doesn't feel like an impersonator show.
