I'm going to be in LV on Saturday, staying for a week, at one of my timeshare hotel/resorts. I've always stayed at hotels before or my little house "Over the hump in Pahrump" so I don't know quite what to expect, although the other resorts I've stayed at are pretty nice. This is a converted hotel-used to be The Fairfield on Harmon. It looks like it's less than a mile off the Strip which is ok. I never walk when I'm in Vegas anyway--too much hassle with the traffic like it is nowadays. Anyway, anything going on that I need to know about--any must-see things? (Other than David van Such, who is appearing at The Orleans and Biersch Brewery, so I'll be sure to see him!)

Well, you might want to stop in at the Las Vegas club or Plaza and get some memoribila. One of the newsletters I subscribe to, has mentioned them as possibly closing soon. I'm not one for rumors but This sounds right. Maybe JMT can confirm???

Thanks Lee. I'll be sure to do that. I have matchbooks from both those places that are 30 years old. I haven't been in the Plaza for years although I used to go there often.

Hi Vickie,

I think City Center has opened since your last visit. It has very little practical appeal. OTOH, if you like to take pictures or like modern art, it is a wonderland. Bring comfortable shoes.

Lena Prima will be playing at the Starbright Theater in Summerlin on Sat Feb 27.

I consider Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack show at The Sahara to be a MUST SEE show. Great music, talented actors, good comedy, and very high on the entertainment scale. It's a solid show.

It will be NASCAR week, ending on the 28th. There will be "activities" at various points around town. Like it or not, the strip will be closed for an hour or so on Thursday night as the NASCAR 18-wheelers, aka haulers, parade down the strip under the lights. I believe it starts at 6pm. It should be a great photo op. Parades such as this always catch a lot of tourist off gaurd.

Centennial High School is doing various versions of Alice In Wonderland this week. It's open to the public, but there is a charge. There is an Alice in Zombieland, Hip Hop Alice, and Vegas in Wonderland. It sounds interesting.

Don't forget the Pinball Museum has moved closer to the strip, in the general area of the Liberace Museum, across the street, near the new Gamblers Book Shop.

I don't know much about the Wyndham. Try to stay off Flamingo Rd. between the freeway and Paradise. It was down to one lane last week and no turn lanes at most intersections.

I hope this helps

JMT, I find myself rarely going into the City Center property or the Aria Casino due to the fact that it's sort of off the beaten track when walking up or down the Strip,

That may not make too much sense to most of us but the casino is set a short distance off the Strip and as a result it discourages lots of visitors from going inside.

All based on my personal observations and personal opinion though, but does anyone else feel that this is a problem for City Center businesses?

Another thought - I think that the planners of City Center did a darn good job doing everything that they could to avoid traffic congestion on the Strip between Flamingo and Tropicana Roads. In fact I see less traffic congestion there now than that time before the CityCenter was built.

I gotta give someone credit for that!

And visitors have been asking me about Viva Elvis and I simply tell them to save there money and see another show.

Hey thanks, JMT! Do you know if the art show at Bellagio has anything to do with the City Center? Or about buildings in Las Vegas. I'm looking for a spiffy place to have dinner tomorrow night. I tried to get reservations at the Eiffel Tower restaurant and can't get for the right time. (My sister-in-law wants to go up in it.) Guess I'll look back through places you guys have recommended in the past.

Bellagio art and City Center art are not related, except by owner MGM.

For your spiffy dinner, you might want to think about Encore's Switch and Sinatra. There are spiffy places at Wynn and Palazzo that I've heard good things about but they don't get a lot of press.

It's not spiffy, but Casa Di Amore serves pretty good Italian food in an old Las Vegas atmosphere. They are open very late in case you're having trouble getting reservations. They usually have a guy playing keyboard singing old Vegas standards.
