As of today Lil' Cajun #1 is a sailor in the United States Navy. He will spend the next 2192 days of his life cruising the world. At this very moment he is at Great Lakes Naval Training Center processing in for his 8 weeks of Navy boot camp. Boy do I wish I could be there to witness him going through what I went through 34 years ago. I can't wait for his first phone call home.

Good luck to him, Cajun! I hope, for Mrs. Cajun's sake, that his tour is like my son in law's. He signed up to see the world and spent the next six years in Key West, doing SAR! It was a great place to visit.
We are hoping he gets San Diego. That way when he comes back to port from sea duty he will be close enough for us to go visit him or he can come visit us. I want him to see what we are doing to his bedroom so that he won't have a place to move back to. LOL!!!

I'm sure he will be fine if he is stationed anywhere the whole time or spends it seeing the world. I know several ex sailors that enjoyed every port and ocean they came across. It seems like a fun way to see the world when you're young and full of energy.
Congrats to your son. Hope he enjoys his tour and makes the most of his time. I had to go back and calculate my own enlistment and it was 43 years ago for me. Other than taking a tour of the Hancock, I never was on a ship. Surprisingly not all Navy men go to sea.
