Starting today, Clark County will begin to repave the ramp area around Concourse C, the terminal that is used exclusively by Southwest Airlines. The east side of the terminal will be repaved with half of the C gates closed. When the east side is finished, those gates will open and the west side of the terminal will get repaved closing the other half of the gates. This project is scheduled to take 2 years to complete.

Sooooo, until sometime in 2012, if you fly Southwest Airlines to Las Vegas, there is about a 50-50 chance that you will fly in or out of the B terminal that once housed America West Airlines. Check the monitors for your gate assignment when you first get to the airport. There is a new walkway that connects the B and C gates without having to go back through security if you have a connecting flight or if you accidently go to the wrong terminal.

As a side note, if the economy had not collapsed, Southwest Airlines was planning on expansion that would have had them do a full take over of B gates in addition to full utilization of the C gates. That was the reason for building the connecting walkway between the gates in the first place. My guess is that after the ramp repaving project is completed, SWA will still use both terminals.
