   Las Vegas Sky Jump
   Las Vegas Sky Jump
Well my luck was so bad last weekend in Vegas I decided to jump off the Stratosphere!

The Sky Jump is a 850 ft controlled jump off the top of the tower. You fall at speeds up to 40 miles per hour with a cable hooked to your back. The cable gives you a nice smooth landing at the bottom.

This was one of the best attractions I have ever done in Vegas. Everyone should give it a try. They even sell underware in the gift shop if you have any issues on the way down.

The hardest part of the jump is looking over the edge of the platform down 850 feet and being told to "MOVE" closer to the edge. For some reason my feet and mind were not communicating at that time.

This attraction will get your heart pumping better then a dealt royal on a five play machine. laugh

Thanks, ED! Interesting comment!

Do you know the official term for that tingling feeling you get in your feet when looking over high edges? I have been trying to find that out for a while now,

They should sell showers with that new underware.

Did you buy a set?

Wow Ed, that sounds like fun. I noticed that they have several packages with T-shirts, DVDs, etc. Did you get a DVD or anything?

Did you jump during the day or at night? What did you think of the fall? Did you get to take in the view or look around?

What did you think of the mechanical system at the top that controls the fall? I looked at it from a engineering view and it was amazing. The prop controls the speed and the reel has a decreasing diameter at the end to slow you down.

I am mentally prepared for the jump. That's no problem. But I think that my legs would start shaking uncontrollably, even though my mind is ready. Could you do it again and walk to edge smoothly or would it still bother you? I know that if you do a jump, you get a discount if you do another one right away.

I think I'd do better if I could just walk right out and fall without stopping at the edge.

Thanks for the report on the jump. You moved it up several notches on my to-do list.

I purchased the DVD, and picture with the jump. The pictures are from the top while you are waiting to jump and they are a great item. The viedo is kinda boring since the camera is on one of the guide cables and your really don't get a good feeling of how high the jump is.

I jumped during the day which is supposed to be scarier because you can see ground. The fall is smooth and you can look around during the 17 seconds you fall. Standing at the top waiting for your turn to jump is very scary and listening to the cable system adds to the scare. The cable system does a great job job in controlling your spead and a smooth stop at the bottom.

I would do it again and I am sure I would still be a little nervous. They do offer a half price jump the same day and we almost went back but it did not fit into the evening activities.

Go ahead and give it a try!

Ed - Wow - sounds like fun. I would love to do something like this. I've never had a fear of heights.

But I wonder if they would let me do it. I'm 54 and have 2 stents. They probably have restrictions with people who have heart issues.

They do ask about heart, back, neck, and everything else. You have to sign a very detailed waiver before you jump. One of the sections in the waiver states you can not even hold them liable for Negligence or Gross Negligence.
