Queen Victoria Pub is located in the Riviera where the old Italian restaurant used to be. It opened just in time for the world cup soccer thingy and did some good business. It continues to stay kinda busy, local buzz is favorable, so I tried it out. First of all, I'm not really a fan of English pub food or even Irish pub food. This place is pretty traditional/authentic. The picture of their food on the advertisements look kinda greasy. Does that inspire traditional cooking? Is that where cider and ale come in? I've overheard discussions with employees and British tourists, and they "seem" to be on the same page. They have some seating on a patio in the casino.
I went with fish and chips, which is something that I hoped that I could identify with. It was pretty good if not slightly greasy. The fish was 2 nice pieces with a nice batter. The french fries were kinda basic but seemed to be fresh cut. It came with a bowl of peas and carrots that might have come out of a can. For $12, it wasn't bad. Service was good.
They have a beer menu and from a quick glance, there wasn't a lot of Bud, Miller, and Coors there. They have the heavy stuff. Most of the food menu seems to be some pretty heavy stuff too. It was kinda fun to just go over the menu and look at the names of the food and the descriptions. You can do it online through the Riviera website.
For anyone that has a reason to not go to The Riviera, fine. But if you have a desire for a traditional British meal, this might be your spot. All of the food that I have seen looks "interesting" and seems to be a good serving size. The prices seem reasonable too. They have several TVs with European sports.
It is interesting that this place is open 24/7 and now the Riviera coffee shop now closes from 1am to 6am.
