BURGERS IN VEGAS

I do know from past experience that there are a good number of burger fans on this board, so this might be somewhat helpful.
I, myself, am not a burger fan but I gotta admit that I often stop for a Protein Cheese Burger with onions at a couple of the local In n Outs. And that usually includes the Animal Fries which you'll never see on that overhead menu.
Just last week I was in the SouthPoint Hotel/Casino and noticed a very long line waiting to get into a very new and very white-bright, soda fountain type of place called "Steaks and Shakes" or was it Shakes and Steaks?
I seldom stand in line so I saw a couple of vacant seats at the counter and decided to give it a try after gaining permission to sit myself immediately at one of those empty counter spaces.
I was thinking .... "This must be one of those new $12 burger joints they have been talking about on the TalkVegas board!", but after an initial glance at the cardboard menu, I noticed that the most expensive consumable was less thnn five!
And many more less than four.
So I placed my order and when it arrived I was even more plesantly surprised because it was very-very good even though it was very-very cheap.
And those other cheap diners in that place seemed to be feeling likewise.
And then I decided to try a milkshake. A huge chocolate one!
And they must have made a mistake because they only charged me $1.99 for one of the biggest chocolate milkshakes I've ever met.
And now I'm looking at a Las Vegas magazine that contains an article about the seven best burgers in Las Vegas and where to find them if and when you decide to pay 12 to 25 for meat on a bun with some additional trimmings.
Strange but ...... that article makes no mention of In n Out, or Steaks and Shakes, nor even Smashburger which is brand new here and has yet to garner my presence, but shortly will.
I guess I gotta admit that I do like good burgers, but I like them good and CHEAP! Any burger above the five dollar figure is considered an extravaganza in my burger book.
But I do know that one day I'll break down and try that 25 dollar Kobe one just to see if I've been missing anything.

I was a big Steak and Shake fan some 40 years ago in Georgia when I first started to stay out late. They were open 24/7 and a good place to stop after a concert or long night. Just before I moved from Texas, Steak and Shakes were starting to hit that area. It was okay, but with a Fuddruckers and What-A-Burger in the same area, the burger couldn't hold up. Also, they were a drive-in with car hops in those days long past. I found it better to enjoy the memories than try to justify the product of today.
Getting tourists to flock to Steak and Shake might be an issue since most tourist can eat them in their home town. Most of the people in the line you saw were probably locals that miss their home town favorite fast food. I've heard a rumor that if the line is long, you can walk up to the take out area and get your order to go and be out of there in just a few minutes.
I'm not sure if you will like Smashburger or not. There are 4 in town. I just had one today. It's my 3rd visit...all with Groupons...and I have one more left. The burger is good, the meat is cooked on a griddle, the shakes are thick, and the toppings seem fresh. On the bad side, the burgers come on nice soft egg bun which is not strong enough to support the burger and it's toppings, service is spotty, the thin fries kinda remind me of In and Out except they are saved by olive oil, rosemary, and garlic.
And the $5.99 burger is $12.94 with fries, shake, and tax. (There is a $4.99 burger option that is 1/3 pound)
It's obvious we don't see eye to eye on burgers, but here's a hint based on experience. DON'T get a kobe burger, unless you like mushy burgers with no texture.

will, you seem to like the less expensive burgers where you walk up to order your burger at a counter. In the last week, I've had several in that category. Here is my list from this week.
Fuddruckers Fatburger Smashburger BurgerKing In N Out
OTOH, I've dined at some of the finer burger joints where you sit down and get your order taken in traditional restaurant style. Just from the last 10 days, here is my list.
Le Burger Brasserie, located in Paris Las Vegas. It is mostly a sports bar and burger bar. Really good burgers starting at $11.
Grind Burger, located on Trop, across from the airport. With their new menu, they now have a Juicy Lucy, a burger with the cheese melted and cooked in the patty.
I "heart" burgers, located in the Palazzo. They use the heart symbol, not the word heart. Good burger in modern diner atmosphere. Friendly service. I can't put my finger on it, but it sure was forgettable.
Kilroys and Burger Joint are high on my list in this category but I did not eat there recently.
