Las Vegas Marathon Moved To An Evening Event
Las Vegas Marathon Moved To An Evening Event
I just received notification that this years Las Vegas Rock & Roll Marathon on Dec 4th will be a night race instead of early morning as in the past.

The full marathon runners will start at 4:00pm and will be given a 4 1/2 hour time limit to complete the 26.2 mile course. That is much shorter than the 7 hour time limit allowed in the previous years.

The 1/2 marathon runners will still be allowed 4 hours to complete the 13.1 mile course and their start time will be at 5:30pm.

I guess they wanted to give those 30,000 runners who come to town some time to go out on the town on Saturday night instead of going to bed at 8:00pm to get up at 4:00am for a 7:00am start.

For us locals that still get up early Monday morning and go to work it's going to be a short night of sleep and a much shorter recovery time before going into work the next morning. I feel some sick leave will be utilized on Monday morning the 5th.

It sounds cold Ralph. So does the old 4am wake up times. I'd probably have mixed emotions if I was a runner.

That's pretty big to shut down the strip at 4pm on a Sunday.

Lee I'm still running the 1/2, so guess you are only 1/2 impressed. LOL!!!

Even if I had the time to train for the full, which means you have to be running about 50-60 miles a week in practice and I only can get in 25 miles a week with my schedule, I still could not make it under the four hour time limit. My best time for a 1/2 is 2 hours and 28 minutes.

Personally I'd still would rather the 7:00am start with a 4:00am wake up call. The main reason is that this race is on a Sunday and it will be a late night finishing and I have my 4:30am wake up call to go work Monday morning.

The other reason is that I'm accustomed to early morning runs. When I do my 12 mile practice runs on Saturday morning I do them at 7:00am also.
