Thanks JMT. This is all really interesting. I'm sorry I'm not able to see it in person but your descriptions are a nice alternative!

Sorry, I didn't see this thread before I posted a new topic. I got a license plate that reads Viva Las Vegas and Viva The Sahara when I was there 6 weeks ago.
This past weekend I was in Pahrump and the radio station (NYE) was talking about the auction and that they were auctioning off furniture from the rooms but I didn't hear about it until it was over. I might have bought a camel lamp.
I still have a few matchbooks from the Sahara and one of the Do Not Disturb signs which I hang on my bathroom door. cry
Buh bye, Sahara and Casbah! Tears falling here. cry

Slow down and take a few breaths Vickie.

The Sahara has closed.
There is NO Auction.

For the next month or so, they will be SELLING items at the Sahara. EVERYTHING must go. That includes, doors, windows, lights, signs, pictures, room furnishings, casino furnishings, and kitchen furnishings.

There's not a ton of logo items remaining. They have playing cards, tournament chips, roulette chips, plastic drink glasses, gaming tables, trash cans, and few others with Sahara on them. All the real chips are long gone.

What they have most of are furnishings without Sahara on them. This would include glasses, plates, flatware, room furnishings, kitchen furnishings, etc.

What is really cool is that you can walk all through the place. There are many floors of the hotel towers open BUT NO AIR CONDITIONING. You can walk back behind the restaurants, kitchens, hallways, count rooms, cashier cages, theaters, offices, etc.

There is still a month or two to grab a last look at some history before it goes away. Come on over to Las Vegas and buy the Casbar Lounge sign. Everything has a price.

laugh Well, so much for those broadcasters in Pahrump! Humph! blush They've probably been saucer-watching too much. So JMT, how much is that sign, anyway? Guess I could look at that list that you so painstakingly assembled. Thanks for doing that. I'll be coming back over. And JoJo said to tell you hello.

You know, I coulda swore that they had spelled the lounge "Casbah" when I was there last month. I know it was always "Casbar" in the past but I thought somebody had changed the one on the lounge. ???? I sat in the empty lounge for several minutes and thought about all the performers I had seen there and the many, many more who had come to see the lounge acts, Louis Prima being one of those. Buh bye, Casbah . . .Casbar.

Something that you and JoJo (Hello) might really like is just taking a walk through the Sahara. You probably remember places that have been built over at the Sahara and can find bits and pieces of where the old stuff was.

I've heard that the original Casbar lounge was really where the Mexican joint and then the diner was. And I forgot where the Don The Beachcomber was. Wasn't it upstairs, near the front?

Yes, I think you're right, JMT. I remember the Casbar being farther back. And I was never in DTB. I was in the showroom upstairs where the Coasters, Drifters & Platters (or reasonable facsimiles thereof) performed. I thought they put on a good show. We had a 20 year old guy with us who loved the show!

I was in the Sahara yesterday and met a nice old man that had over 40 years working at the place. He showed me where the Casbar was. Walking through the "back of house" areas, it's easy to see the different areas that were added onto. You can tell by the style of doorways and the width of hallways. The easiest way to tell is look at the ceiling in the hallways. You can see different styles of lights, exposed pipes/hidden pipes, exposed air ducts/hidden ducts, etc.

BTW, somewhere you asked how much the Casbar sign was. It's a nice sign, held up with two decorative columns. They want $825. That's probably negotiable, or might drop if they don't sell it soon.

I've taken nearly 1000 pictures of the place since it closed. I'll probably post them on-line somewhere so everyone can see them.

You are too cool, JMT! I can't wait to see your photos. How big is that sign anyway? Hmmm.

The liquidators at the Sahara opened up access to the NASCAR Cafe today, saying everything must go. I probably won't get a chance to visit until it's picked through.

Maybe some of you remember that HUGE car over the bar in the NASCAR Cafe? I think it was called Carzilla or something like that. I saw it last night on a flatbed semi on Route 66 in Kingman AZ. Not sure where its new home will be.
