   Smallest Casino In Town
   Smallest Casino In Town
I did a little gambling at the smallest casino in Las Vegas today. It was in a white tent, no air conditioning, no cameras, no cocktails, and an asphalt floor. There was a generator and a port-a-potty outside. It had 2 lines of 8 machines back to back. The machines were all the same video poker type with 6 different games in 5 cent and 25 cent denominations. There was one old man that was the slot attendant and paid the winnings. There was no coin out or ticket out.

The casino was set up on the southwest corner of Convention Center Blvd and Paradise Rd. It might be the sight of the old Beacher's Night Club. It is across from the Convention Center. It seems Marriott owns this land (which is next to a Marriott at Paradise and DI) and wants to build a casino there. Therefore to maintain their gambling license, they need to maintain gambling on the site. They do this by periodically setting up a temporary casino.

This casino was set up for one day. It's hours were from 6am 'till 2pm. I got there about 11pm, stayed 2 hours, and there was never another customer. When I play on games like this, I like to play each of the six games until I hit a very good hand or until I run out of designated gambling money. I put in a $20 bill. played at the 5 cent level, and that was my budget. I started with Deuces Wild Bonus and quickly got a wild royal. Then on to Deuces wild, where I got wild royal after it kept teasing me with several 4 to a royals. On to Bonus Poker where I played a long time before I hit four 3s. A quick session of Double Bonus where I got four 7s. Then I played Bonus Poker Deluxe, where I had a great session until I hit four Qs. At this point I had $32 in credit. Finally I played Double Double Bonus where I played a long time but it finally beat me down to zero.

It was an absolutely beautiful day and I had a blast.

did you have your players card in the machine? LOL
amazing how this little law works. seems like a weird way to keep a current licence. Wouldn't it make more sense to just charge more of a idle license?

This was just in Strictly Slots Magazine. JMT - the article says "no one showed up to play" so you must have been the only customer. The old guy apparently didn't remember you!

Slot Casino Opens and Closes in One Day

Due to a peculiarity in the laws of Clark County, gaming licenses in zones where casinos are permitted can lose that license if there is no active gambling held on the land in an 18-month period. This has led to "pop-up casinos" which open and close quickly in order to meet that legal requirement. For a few hours on April 27, 16 video poker machines were set up inside a 20x20 tent erected on the corner directly across from the entrance to the Las Vegas Convention Center. No one showed up to play, but it preserved the valuable zoning designation for unrestricted gaming that exists on the parcel.

Marriott International hired a local Las Vegas-bassed compay to create the unnamed and very short-lived casino. The Marriott hotel chain had spent $225 million at the height of the Vegas real estate boom to buy 14.4. acres at that location. At this time, there aren't any plans for contruction on that site.

That's funny Mike. Thanks for sharing. Channel 3 interviewed me for about 20 minutes and spliced it into a 35 second clip on the news. Some of my friends commented about seeing me on TV. I saw it on the internet that night, but it's probably long gone by now.

I guess that old black man had a short memory.

If you hear the same thing about the Sahara liquidation sale, don't believe it. A bunch of us spent long tired hours in the hot sun waiting to get in.
