   Who Rents Cabanas?
   Who Rents Cabanas?
Who / Why / and What-for?

Who in their right mind would rent a cabana? ..... one of those little shady spots around the pool priced at roughly $200 and up per day?

I thought tourists went to the pool to get some sun, not to get some shade!

You can get all the shade you want in your room without paying an extra fee or inside the casino where you might be paying a heck of a lot more - but at least you'd be having fun in the shade.

Anyone you know rent these things?

Will it's not that simple! They are great for families. With kids, they can't get too much sun. With us, I'm about as white and pastie as they come, and to spend a day with my honey, that loves the pool and sun, and I am garenteed a place in the shade where I won't burn. Where I can read the newspaper without squinting, keep cool drinks in the mini fridge, and people watch from my perch.
$200 is a cheap price to avoid sunburn. Ever had sunburn on vacation? It ain't fun, and I'm not a very happy person. Also you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to "save your spot" with a pool towel. BTW, $200 is cheap for some places, I've been quoted up to $375, and @ hardrock they want a $2000 min tab from you on reHab day!

THANKS, LEE! I see your point but being from Hawaii, I would never even consider renting one even if they were rented for free.

Had to say that!

BTW, a good friend rented one of those HR Rehab Party cabanas so that they could celebrate is sister's 21 birthday with a group of roughly eight good friends and he did pay $2,000!

BUT .... they also insisted that he had to guarantee an additional fee (I think it was somewhat close to $1,200) for drinks and services.

So they did the normal CC thing for the amount of $3,200 but left it open in case he add additional expenses.

So they get there early and order a couple of rounds of Margaritas and Bloody Mary's and he sits in the sun outside the $2,000 cabana and falls asleep for a couple of hours, only to wake up and discover a good sized party going on in the immediate area and everyone having a great time at his expense.

His sister had invited some guys she met in the pool and she had no idea that all those 'cocktails' were on her brother's tab.

And he, being a very kind and generous and loving brother, didn't offer a word of objection until later on that afternoon when he was informed that his tab had come pretty darn close to $5,000.

Then the next week his wife's sister celebrated her 21st at Tao and he foot the bill for that one also..... Private table and bottle service, etc..... and that one only amounted to a little over $2,500.

Drinking ain't cheap in this town but I do know a joint where you can drink your little butt off if you like Tequila with a cold beer chaser. It's a dump but that combination will only set you back $2.50 a throw-down.

But being as nice as you kind folks are ,,,, you probably wouldn't want to be seen dead in this place.

But if you are a Tequila/beer fan .... feel free to ask.

Will, I love a good Dive Bar! And I'm not knocking drinking for cheap or for that matter just using the free lounge chairs at the pool either. You asked who and I gave a few options. I also beleive it's one of those things you can ask for from your host and get the thing comped (Cabana's that is). Making you feel/look like a big shot. I'm not into that scene, but a lot of people are.
Drinking cheap is one of the reasons we love downtown so much. Even if your not gambling, some of those casinos have some very attractive prices for drinking on the cheap!

OK, Lee! Thanks, burt when I say "cheap", I mean "REAL Cheap"!

Cheap drinks in places you might never admit to being in.... such as the Atomic Bar or the Western or the old Gold Spike. All such "lovely places' that even myself tend to avoid on sacred occasions such as Easter or Christmas.

But that does leave me 363 other days to consider the other options outside of the Bellagio, the Encore, or City Center where they steal $14 from me and not ever serve Smirnoff in a real Martini glass.

Yikes!

I know a lot of people that rent cabanas including my little sister who comes out frequently. It works for her situation. And it works for a lot of other people.

Just because I don't understand or can't justify it, doesn't make it wrong. We all do things that others can't justify. For instance, why gamble when you know the town was built on losers? I know the people I see in cabanas appear much happier than the people I see on slot machines.

Will, sometimes we stop in just because of a name of a bar. Or just because we pass it all the time, or just because it looks , interesting in a sleavy sort of way. LOL
$200 for a cabana, would I spend it, yes, do I on a regular basis, no. Its Las Vegas, and people visit for a bunch of reasons. Some don't even drink or gamble, and still come away having a great time. That's what I like so much about LV, it is so many things so so many different people.
I tell everyone, even if you don't drink, or gamble you got to do Vegas one time in your life!

Joe, That last sentence is so true! And how long does $200 last on those slots? Most likely not all day like the cabana does! LOL

Well we have no kids and we do enjoy soaking in the sun and relaxing in the water so those over priced pieces of canvas would be useless to us. We use the proper amount of sun screen and cool hats and sunglasses are all we need and think about how much we are saving. For short no hotel fees and no tee-pee = BIG SAVINGS.
