I've been playing tourist more than usual, mainly through Groupon certificates. Some Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon tours are better than others. I'm really looking for unique stuff.

I took a really fun tour today. Scoot City Tours does tours of Red Rock Canyon via 3 wheel scooters. I've seen Red Rock Canyon several times. It does matter what vehicle you are in as to how much you can take in. My convertible was probably the most fun to see it all. This 3 wheel scooter is a very close second.

The Scoot City tour picks you up at your hotel and takes you to a mini warehouse near the Red Rock Casino to start the tour. They go over operation and safety of the scooter and the fun begins. It's about a 15 minute ride through back streets and down Charleston to Red Rock Canyon. There is a lead tour guide scooter and another guide on a scooter in the back, with all the tourists in scooters inbetween. The tour pays your entrance into the park. There are 4 stops along the scenic loop where you can get out and stretch your legs, walk around on the rocks, take pictures etc. Then it's a 15 minute ride to the gas station where you cool off and the guides service the scooters. And there's a final 10 minute ride back to mini-warehouse near Charleston and Haulapai.

The scooters are 2 seaters. Standard price is $125 per person. The scooters have 50 cc engines are classified as a moped by Nevada laws. They are street legal with blinkers and headlights. They go about 30 mph. Scoot City puts a little cooler with 4 bottles of ice water in each scooter. The scooters are pretty comfortable and easy to drive. They do not allow you to wear caps or hats while the scooters are moving because people tend reach out for them when they blow off and forget about driving. If you have a bald head like me, they recommend a bandana. Scoot City sells bandanas, T-shirts, and sweatshirts at pretty steep prices. The Red Rock Visitors Center also sells bandanas. The tour is about 5 hours, hotel to hotel. Total miles driven is about 30 miles at the wheel. They do two tours per day, one about 8am and the other noonish.

I had a great time, especially since I was paying half price through a Groupon. It was a 110 degree record heat day. I was picked up at the Monte Carlo about 7:30am so we weren't out in the real heat of the day. With really low humidity and a constant breeze in my face, it was fine. There was not much historical info or tour guide input. When you visit Red Rock Canyon, there is enough scenery to fill your mind. The guides were very helpful and friendly and answered all questions. Also if you go, dress properly, stay hydrated, bring lip balm and sunscreen and a camera.

I recommend this tour, and you can follow the link for more details.
