The Plaza had a soft opening today so I had to drop by and check it out. There were a lot of improvements, a lot of construction, and a lot of work still needs to be done. Overall I was kinda disappointed since I've been following the hype. Here are some observations.

Front scrolling sign removed from the middle of the dome. Presumably it will be refurbished and put back.

Entry/check-in area got a good overhaul. You can still tell that it is the Plaza though.

New cupcake place is open near check-in area.

Old McDonalds under plastic wrap and probably hasn't been touched...or cleaned.

Hash House A Go Go is in the old Omelet House area and looks ready to open.

Island Sushi is in old buffet area and is under construction.

Casino is very familiar. Too familiar. Little more than soap and water. There are some new machines and some old ones. There are new pillars and some new lights.

Cashier cage is much smaller.

Swingers Club is across east wall and is under construction. It looks like a country bar with a stage.

Sports book is under heavy construction.

Poker room is under heavy construction.

1/3 of the slot machines not running at this time.

Players Club is unchanged.

Theater entrance at casino is unchanged.

Curved cutout in ceiling unchanged.

Lucky's sports bar getting new trim.

2nd floor restaurants under construction and still have Firefly menu displayed.

2nd floor wedding chapel with round wrought iron gates is unchanged except for some extra dust.

3rd floor bingo is open.

3rd floor got some soap and water with new furniture.

3rd floor Lounge and theater under construction.

I saw some rooms and they were nice with curved desk, smallish flat screens, light and dark brown colors, roller chair at desk, and big beds.

Most entrance and valet lights were working okay, but the exterior waterfall lights coming down facing Fremont St were in need of attention.

I hope it works for them. The Plaza was one of my fathers favorites.
I hope they do a better job of keeping the bums out of the place.
"Just soap and water" ain't gonna work IMHO.

The plaza...
The first thing we noticed was the doors into the place! Nice!
The lobby, almost beautiful, I'm spoiled by some of the space at the bigger resorts both on and off the strip.
The Ceiling, I think they did the best they could with what they had to work with.
Players club, looks nice. Not some temp, mock up, like the old one.
Cashier cage smaller.
Some new machines and some old favorites, all on and working.
Swingers club, opens @ 6PM, dueling pianos, putting greens, small stage area for a band.
Sports book, still coming together. But looks promising! Sharp screens
Sports bar and the casino bar, new trim, but still same old thing.
Showroom entrance, same.
New carpet, the plaza smell is gone! I seen no street people while inside.
Sushi place is open, kinda cheesy space. Hash House, open. McD's still closed, subway open. Gift shop open, no change their.
Outside lights still need major work, as does the outside in general.

Square foot wise, it think this might be the biggest casino downtown proper?
Did not see a room, but, my memory of the plaza room I was issued one time is stuck in my head, and it ain't good.
