I just had some friends return from their 10 day Vegas trip. They told me that they overheard several people at the Bellagio discussing the possible take over of the Golden Nugget from the Landry family by Caesars .(formerly HET )
We were just wondering if that had any truth to it ?

It is interesting. I haven't heard that rumor and it doesn't seem to fit in the Caesars game plan. You never know.

I was sorta hoping that it would actually happen. I was thinking if that did happen then the Gojden Nugget would also be part of Total Rewards and our cards would be accepted there meaning we could get comped. rooms at the nicest downtown hotel.

Would love to see a Ceasars property downtown. I enjoy visiting downtown every few trips and having a ceasars property would offer me many more options to travel downtown.

The golden nugget is a very classy property.

I can't imagine Harrahs buying into downtown now! They are carrying quite a bit of debt already. IMHO

Lee in Pa I think it would be a good gamble because then Caesars would have something downtown as well as on the strip. They could say something like NOW NOT ONLY CAN YOU USE YOUR TOTAL
REWARDS CARD DOWNTOWN AT THE GOLDEN NUGGET SO YOU CAN EARN POINTS ALL OVER LAS VEGAS. I think it could be a win win for everybody.

True JMT, they did!
@VT, while I'd love for Harrahs to have the option you speak of. I don't see them making any kind of move like that, in this money climate.
And while the GN is the class of downtown, It is not my favorite place to play downtown, it is crowded at peek times, the machines are packed in tight. Even at the tables, people are always bumping my chair. If Harrahs where to make a play for a spot downtown, I'd like to see a brand new place built from the ground up! (I mean while we are dreaming, might as well reach for the stars)

You bring up an interesting point Lee. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Harrah's or any of it's Wall Street backed forms has built any property from the ground up in Las Vegas. I don't know about the rest of the country.
