Their initial plans were to make the Sahara a smaller boutique hotel that would come alive with night life. I guess it is possible that they could revamp one tower, put in some restaurants and clubs, and have a limited casino. Since they own the property, it would take less income to turn a profit.
I just don't see it happening anytime soon. My guess would be that they would float some ideas in the media to get the attention of investors and the public. With a little luck there would be enough public buzz to sell the place off. And if enough investors came forward, they could actually follow through on the plans. Again, I don't see the money coming in for anything to happen in this economy.

Clark County Commissioners approved permits for the owners of the Sahara to renovate the property. The owners claim financing is in place and they are ready to move forward. Improvements include removing the roller coaster, a complete retheming of the property, a new and easier access to the property, a whole new outside look, rebranding, a 3000 sq ft beer garden, and more.

The owner of the Sahara, Sam Nazarian, just opened his new night club at the Bellagio. During his 15 minutes of patting himself on the back for the nightclub, he mentioned that the Sahara will open sooner than later.
He said the hotel will be rebranded SLS Vegas. He says it will become a far more luxurious boutique property to match his other properties. He said that he just pulled his original permits to look into when he can give an offical start date.
