I'm going to Vegas in Novemember and was wondering what is the "best" Mexican restaurant in Vegas? I plan on taking my friends who live there out for dinner. (They have lived in Vegas for 25 years but don't get out much).

That's a tough one. Mexican is very regional...kinda like BBQ. Best can be misleading because the most authentic may not be the most flavorful, too spicy, or in the finest neighborhood. I did a report on Mexican food a few years ago. You might want to go back a few pages and look for it. It's probably still pretty accurate.

Some local favorites are Viva Mercardo on Rainbow, near Spring Mountain Rd and Lindo Michoacan on East Desert Inn. Local Mexicans like to eat at Bonito Michoacan at the corner of Twain and Decatur. All 3 get pretty high marks from me, who was raised on Tex-Mex style Mexican food. I think these 3 have web sites you could search for.

From a tourist's perspective, I have 2 favorites:

Gonzalez y Gonzalez at New York, New York

Willy & Jose's at Sam's Town

I was not a fan of the Mexican place at MGM Grand nor the one at Monte Carlo (I can't remember the names).

I like Casa Don Juan, but it isn't fancy, and it has a bad location unless you have a car. between the strip and downtown.
I am not an expert on Mexican food, I do however know what I like. I also like seeing Mexicans working in the reasturant. I'm always suspect of any ethnic food place that doesn't have that nationality working the food preperation.

I second Lindo Michoacan, although we go to the one in Centennial.
I don't remember if I can post a web address or not. If it is removed, just go to the name of the restaurant as all one word dot com.

As far as I know, all of the people that work at the restaurant near me, that are servers, bartenders, hostess/hosts, and musicians are Hispanic. We think the food is terrific, and not all tacos, fajitas, and enchiladas.......though, those are good too.
Have fun!
