Last night was the annual Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon. Yes I did say *last night* because this years event was a night race for the first time ever. And given the success and turnout for this year I believe the night event is here to stay. They announced at the start of the race that there were a total of 44,000 participans for the full and half marathon combined, compared to only 28,000 last year when it was an early, 7:00am start.
I had issuses with shin splints again so that made any hopes of running the 13.1 mile course questionable, so I did what I had to do to finish it, I walked most of it, hell damn near all of it, in just a little over three hours. I believe my chip time was around 3:10, I'll have to check the website when they post the official results.
This years event was kicked off with Mike McCready of Pearl Jam doing the electric guitar version of the Star Spangled Banner, a-la Jimi Hendrix style. Then McCready took to the streets in his running gear and ran the half marathon himself in just a little over two hours.
