Book Review "I get paid for this" "kicking ass and taking notes in Vegas" By; Rick Lax Huntington Press
First off, I didn't hate the read. It was a very quick read, and for someone with a short attention span, this is a great book. I say that because it's a collection of very short stories, fluff pieces for a Vegas freeB mags/papers to be exact. It's marketed as a guy goes and does odd jobs in vegas, but he only does them for a day (for his piece for the paper). Restroom attendant in a strip club, street performer, ect... But really that is just the first chapter. I personally was put off but marketing this way, but I should be used to it by now. The first chapter was the best, so I can see why they did it, but still! He does some interesting subject pieces on some vegas people, he was exceptionally kind to Monti Rock III. But again, interesting, and truth be told for what ever reason, I was glad he didn't get bashed too! "Live and let live!" There is a section on odd conventions, clubbing in vegas, and finding love in vegas. The truly sad part of this book is the last 20 to 30 pages. where he becomes a jerk. where he asks for blurbs, he writes some fake crap and explains it away as how easy it is to lie to "us the reader" but he won't or can't or some such silliness! Or was the worst part when he goes on and on about some video he did as a kid and got all these "gay" comments, on my space. I find I don't really care, if he is a tortured writer. Just leave the self serving, quasi head playing games for your free time, not in a book your trying to pawn off on the public. And Rick if your reading this, I think thou protests too much! Not that I'm bashing, I'm just saying! After all, you brought it up first...
Or you could just play the game, find the typo's. If I found them with my spelling skills, you will too!

Mike & Jmt, it,s not a totally bad book, he did share some insights, at times some humor, that I could identify with. Also, I'm not a book reader, so it has to be something or someone I am interested in. I think anyone who reads this book will come away with something they liked, but I equally believe the last 30 or so pages will also turn most off. I do get the vibe, hey look at me, ain't I the sh#t! I get the feeling he's trying to practice some sort of physiology on his readers. Like the warning " don't read this chapter, it doesn't end happy" The book is cheap enough, but if I buy a book, I'm reading all of it!
