   2 free night offer
   2 free night offer
I received an e-mail from OverStockdotcom today. The offer was if I buy any item, they'd send me a free two night vacation. Well, I did some checking and Nevada is one of the states that where included in the program, so I figured what the heck. I purchased baby toys for $35 (free shipping) so I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
Actully the company it is through I've delt with before, and everything went smoothly. If anyone recalls a post last year about "what would you choose" where I had to pick between NYNY, Flamingo, or MGM. This is the same travel company. Well we ended up at the Flamingo again. But if those are my choices this time around, I'll pick differntly. <S>

I take it you didn't care for the Flamingo then? We stayed there two nights in July and didn't have a great experience.
Minor problems checking in (told room was ready, it wasn't). Room needed new carpet, new drapes, furniture recovered, and new wallpaper. Bathroom was VERY small. I'm not one to complain about bathroom size but will all the other inconveniences, it was just one more straw on the Camels back.

If given the same choices......well, it is just a room. I'd probably stick with NYNY just because I like the decor. That and I'd be afraid of having to walk a mile to my room at MGM. <g>

Doug,
I like the Flamingo, for a base. It's location for the places I like to play at is great. I enjoy some of the people who work there. I also have made friends with some of these people over the years. However, it has become painfully clear, that my play is no longer wanted there, by the offers I'm receiving, compared to other peoples offers that have played the same or less then me.
So when I say I won't use the Flamingo as an option on this offer if it's offerd, I mean I now embrace the chance to try other properties. As I know the end is near for my Flamingo stays.
Aladdin & LV Hilton on the last trip went very well. I'm hoping to try a few more out in Feb., April, & May. On the list to try is NYNY, Orleans, Caesars, & Paris. It will come down to the best rates at the time of my stay. I'd like to incorparate this 2 nite offer in with one of those stays! <S> Providing it isn't for some of the rat holes of Las Vegas ie....VV or El Cortez LOL

Lee, did the Rio buy the Flamingo? It sounds like it from the offers you have been getting. I thought the Rio was the only place that did not take care of their regular customers.

Hi Lee PA
Letha and I would sure like to here your opinion of the Orleans if you should happen to stay there. Has anybody on the BB ever stayed at the Barbary Coast? We played at both places quite heavily and have some points built up.

Letha/Mike, I have stayed at both the Orleans and the Barbary Coast, and I like both of them. The BC is small, only about 200 rooms, which is part of it's charm. The decor in the rooms is officially Early Victorian, but I call it Early Bordello<g>. They have a good coffee shop and a couple of excellent fine dining rooms (Michaels and Drais) but nothing in between. However, with their location, that's not really a problem since there are so many good choices around.

The Orleans rooms are slightly larger, with a sofa & coffee table instead of round table & 2 chairs (both have desks) and nicely decorated with quieter wall coverings<g>. I like all the entertainment choices at the Orleans, showroom, bowling, movies, and they have a much larger selection of gaming for a quarter VP player, as well as a lot of table games, as well as a good assortment of dining choices. They have shuttle buses to both the Gold Coast and the Barbary Coast every 20 minutes, so it would be a good choice for someone wanting a location convenient to the Strip.

John,
Actaully, the Rio was purchased by Harrahs some time back. The Flamingo is owned by Park Place Entertainment, a spin off of Hilton.

Lee,
Keep in mind that Ceasers and Paris are also PPE properties. I would assume that their offers will follow the path of the Falmingo. Perhaps the they feel that the rooms at the Flamingo are discounted enough so that they don't need to offer comps for your play? Maybe this is an experimentation in marketing for them? Harder to get comps but lower prices?
Seems that the offers from Cearsers have been better lately. Heck, I get offers from Ceasers and we've barely played there. We've played more at the Flamingo but recieved very little from them. Only the occasional E-mail about room sales. Like I said, maybe it's a marketing experiment?

I do know that a poster at the TUG site used to be a Flamingo regular. He encounter the same frustration as you and has moved his play completely out of Vegas and up to Reno and the Atlantis Resort.

Orleans appears to be a nice resort but I'm not sure I like how they count points. I haven't spent a lot of time looking into it but I had heard that they were counted on coin OUT instead of coin in. This would be bad for me as I can always find a machine that's not paying. <g>

Hey VV may be imporving! After all, Holiday Inn purchased the place out of bankruptcy court and we all know what a great job Holiday in did with the Boardwalk. <VBG>

Doug,
Isn't the Holiday inn involved in the Fitzgeralds Hotel/Casino also?

The fact that I'll no longer get Hilton Honnors points at the Flamingo doen't help either. This is basicly the same thing that happened to us at Bally's about 6 or 7 yrs ago. All of a sudden nothing in the form of good offers. With a car, the location isn't as inportant, but with the Flamingo being home base, it made it easier to enjoy the Flamingo bartenders, knowing full well I was already home for the evening. <S>
Their is a lot of things wrong with the Flamingo, but they do, do some things right. It all boils down to what is the best fit for the each of us.

Yes, the Fitz. is another HI property. I belived the hotel and the casino are two different entities though.

What can your say, HI are some of the highest class hotels around. <g>

Lee, If you want to try NYNY or some of the other places you mentioned and you don't have slot cards there yet, sign up online. I did that with NYNY and got an offer for 2 nights (Sun-Thurs) for $50 each night just for signing up-no play at all. I will be there in early April 9-10 (Mon-Tues). My folks stay at NYNY all the time and love it. And if you've already signed up for a card at NYNY (or anywhere else), has Sue? Just a thought.

I signed up online at the Venetian and received an offer today from them. I have given them zero play up to this point. I think the online offers are the future and I encourage everyone to sign up at all the websites of the various casinos.

SuperMoM,
We already are both members of NYNY slot club. For some reason, I can't get to like the place, and i can't put my finger on it. At first I thought it was because of the crowds, but they have curtailed quite a bit and I still get the same feeling.
But for free, I could stay there! LOL

John,
Have you been to any site where they had asked you for a players card number or a slot card number yet?
If they intagrate that information with the web address, then yes, it will fly. But how many of us just trash some of the junk e-mail that comes across our computer? I do! Right now I'm dealing with between 30 & 40 e-mails a day. The junk gets tossed!
If they would intagrate the club info, they could reach everyone at the same time with offers, be more choossy who they offer special deals too, and save a bundle on postage. To the point where us on the east coast get those weekend deals like some of the more locals do from time to time.

Lee, I think Caesars asked for my slot card number, but I am not sure. If they did not, then they cross referenced me with their computer. They sent me a great offer and from what I could tell others did not get as good an offer. So they somehow knew who I was.
