24 Karat Club (at the Golden Nugget)
24 Karat Club (at the Golden Nugget)
24 Karat Club (at the Golden Nugget)
Takes 30 points on the slot card to be eligable for this, I'm told.

I just received my welcome letter, and it states some pretty decent room rates.
$45.00 Sunday through Thursday nights
$65.00 Friday & Saturday nights.
Max of 5 nights.

This seems like a very decent rate, I'm looking forward to see what kind of rooms they have.

I read Bob Dancers article in last months Casino Player magazine (I think that was the one). He really is big on the Golden Nuggets video poker and their slot club.

We signed up but didn't play there last trip. Seems like it takes a lot of $$ through the machine to equal one point. I don't remember for sure but seems as if $100 through = 1 point.

$2250.00 total through, to acheive 30 points, which gives you 24Karat status. I like that you know what you need to get what! The Flamingos system is all in the dark and you just never know what the formula is to get what you want. Sometimes you get it, other times you don't!
The Nugget is holding a lot of promiss. I hope the hotel end is decent, or my wife will be unhappy. If Sue is unhappy, then I am unhappy.....trust me! LOL

I'm pretty sure that Sue will like the hotel side of the GN. Some of the negatives for me include the basic layout which might require a long walk depending on where your room is and where you are going, there are a lot of rooms with a poor view, and I don't like the general offices on the second floor of the North Tower. The elevators seem to always stop there. None of these negatives are worth complaining about. On the plus side, the property has always been big on cleanliness. Even housekeepping seems to go that extra mile.

While your current offer is from the casino marketing department, you should also check out Private Arrangement through the hotel. They give some pretty good offers too. Not only do you get credit for your paid stays, you get credit for booking friends there too.

Lee,
I would be amazed if Sue wern't happy with the accomodations at GN. On Talk Vegas go to the home page and call up GN - the room they show there looks exactly like the room looks. It is a 4 star hotel. They have all ammenities - in room safe, hair dryer, nice shampoos, etc. and a really good lighed make up mirror at its own table. As JMT described the walk from the South Tower to the Casino is very, very, very long. Actually it feels longer than that. However it is close to the parking garage. I would think you'll be very happy there.

The main drawback to the GN from our perspective is the pool and it's location. Linda said she would not stay there because of it. Other than that, I like the GN, but I am not sure they have decent comps. They might, but I have never heard of them as one of the better places for comps.

Well, I'm not worried, when i checked to see how i was doing (if I made my 30 points) they said I have enough and would I like 2 for the lunch buffet! Much better attitude then the Flamingo!
Pool? They could cement it in for all I care. The only good thing even about the flamingo pool is the 'eye candy' walking around in the warmer months....I sure as heck am past my pool days!
A clean room is what I ask for and 24hr room service! That's about as basic as I can break it down in what we need. Long walks don't bother me. After you stay at the Flamingo and are asigned room 14001, there is no longer walk from the casino I am sure!

I guess it really comes down to I'll have to try it and in May I'll find out.

Now, I'll also get to see if I'm treated better or worse then a regular paying customes. My sister didn't think it was worth her time to get her 30 points, so she'll be paying full price for her room. Mine is discounted to the 24K rates. It will just be interesting! <S>

Lee, At least you will be close to MSS<G>
I could care less about the pool also, but Linda has to have that luxury. It's ok as far as I am concerned. She goes to the pool and I play video poker and sip adult beverages! Makes sense to me<G>

Lee - you can walk right out the Gn door and into Binions Cafe. Probably the best sit down breakfast in Vegas.
Also, if you not getting a rental car, you can take the tram for $5 per person and pass on the $25 plus cab fare. It stops at the GN. It also leaves the GN every half hour for the airport.
Yeah there's no comparing the Flamingo pool with the GN's, but the GN has it all over the Flamingo on everything else. Including helpful freindly people.
We quit going to the Flamingo years ago when I got tired of the way we were treated by staff.

Lee, if your sister is gonna pay full price, y'all have two pretty good options. One, call and join Private Arrangement, and book her room and get credit for it. Or suggest that she join Private Arrangement and get credit for this stay.

BTW, I like the location of the pool.

John,
What seemed to impress Bob Dancer the most was the the GN offered twice the cash back as any other casino. Of course he went on to say that he and his wife run a cool one million through the GN machines and that he generally plays the $5 machines.
I'm afraid I'm not quit at that level yet. <g>.
However, I am doing pretty well at building my war chest. This last trip didn't ding us too badly. I've had a tutorial for some time on my computer and managed to stay pretty much even while building some points up. Shelley, on the other hand, wasn't as far along and suffered some losses. She now has a copy of Bob Dancers Win Poker on her computer and has already picked up on some of the mistakes she was making. This Should cut down on the losses while we build up our comps. Maybe sometime in the future I'll achieve the level of play Mr. Dancer and Jean Scott (the Frugal Gambler) have achieved.
Trust me, I'm learning. <vbg>

Lee,
As others have posted. The last thing to worry about is the "Hotel" GN is #1 I've stayed there a few times and it's always been tops.I just don't like downtown anymore? I go every visit but they get shorter and shorter.A few bad incidents turned me off.For awhile just after FSE it was well policed and pretty clean. Now it's back to the old days.I just don't feel comfortable there anymore? Maybe I'm getting old?

The last time I stayed I went just to GN and Binnion's and valet parked at GN and drove to the strip every night. But these days the adult beverages and the car definitely do not mix!! I always rent a car because I like to get out of town for a break and find it relaxes me.I'll use it in the days but usually at night it stays in the valet.I also now will leave it at whatever hotel I'm at when I get over served and make a note of where it is and go back the next day and collect it.I tried staying just downtown but couldn't do it.A few years back I could have but now I like to bounce all around.By the way the Private arrangement is a great deal. You really add up points fast and the rates are reasonable too.Well that's my 2c.Enjoy and win.
Bob NY.

All these nice replies about the Nugget, and I don't stay there till May! Yikes!
My April trip has me at the LV Hilton & Flamingo, I have to wait another 6 weeks after my return from that trip before I get to stay at the Nugget! <S>

Bob G,
I too like to jump around alot, but we find we have been spending more time playing off the strip then on it lately. It's much easier to find full pay machines when you get off the strip. However, I'm not willing to cut the quality of my hotel room. MSS, while ok, it was far from fancy, the public area's are where that place shines. So it looks like the NUgget wil work out just great.
I'd also like to give the Orleans a try too, but weekends are tough to come by, so we always pass that one over.
I like you enjoy a couple of adult beverages from time to time, and when I've had too many, I park the car and cab it. I've never had a problem leaving my car over night at tany of the hotels except Palace Station, and I'm sure that was valet that dented the car, not vandels.

Thanks everyone for the pep-talk on the Golden Nugget. I need to hear it from time to time! But if their is bad to be said, I want to hear that too.

JMT, I don't think any of the negatives you pointed out will bother me, but I see where they could be bothersome.

Doug,
I ain't running no Million through no machine either! If anyone see's me sitting at a $5.00 VP machine, I've either bumped my head, or I think it's a nickle machine and can't figure out why the small nickles keep falling through! LOL

John,
I think you understand the concept of "if the wife ain't happy, then the husband isn't going to be happy either" LOL

Thanks all!
Lee-PA

Lee,
At another hard core site, the Suncoast was voted #1.
First, excellent VP, New Place, Large rooms, good food, 3k Day for free room, and 5K for Room and food.
The host with the most there is
Donna Sinclair.

Rick, I've stayed at the Suncoast, and it deserves some nice words. The room was sort of like Caesars (but no jacuzzi), large with a nice sitting area, a desk and with a nice view of one of the Summerlin golf courses. There is a lot of full-pay quarter VP available, but the nickel VP pay scales were lousy. They do have most of the new video nickel slots. With a movie theatre, showroom, bingo hall and bowling, it is a good choice for someone who doesn't like to casino hop. They also have a nice exercise room, with a great view of the golf course. The swimming pool was still under construction when I was there.

The dining choices are very similiar to the Orleans, with the Mexican restaurant and buffet being as good as their counterparts at the Orleans, and the coffee shop is better IMO. I didn't try the Italian restaurant, but I want to go back there sometime just to see the decorations ... it looked beautiful when Blos & I strolled by one evening.

The one drawback to me is the location ..until they set up a shuttle service to the other Coast properties. The distance isn't that far, but you have to navigate the Spaghetti Bowl to get there on the freeway, and that's one freeway construction zone I REALLY dislike<g>.

Lee, not being able to stay at the GN until May might work in your favor. I only stayed there once ...on a preferred rate coupon given to me by a friend in Private Arrangements. I think she got PA credit for referring me, AND I was able to join PA when I checked in and got credit for my stay. You might receive a similiar offer from them before your May trip. In any case, Sue will like the rooms there, so you should be happy there too<vbg>.

Rick (RI),
I don't like the location of the Suncoast. I think it comes from not driving in that area very much and I don't have the grasp of the roads there, like I do in henderson and such. While we have visited the Suncoast and it's a very bright cheerful casino, I don't think I'm ready to stay there.
