   Gold Coast
   Gold Coast
Anyone recently stay at the Gold Coast? We are booked there in June. We've heard and read about the renovations, but it sounds like they are mostly casino/restaurant related. We have not visited the property in 1-1/2 years and we have never stayed there.

Have the rooms been updated? Is there a "newer" section of the hotel that we should request?

We really wanted to stay at Palms or Rio but the rates are over our limit. We like to keep some money to gamble with! wink

Itch,
It's my understanding that the remodel job is in the public areas, and it does look great. I've not heard much about the rooms, which is sort of a good sign.
I think Daisy may have stayed here recently. It is a coast property as is the Barbary Coast and Orleans, and both of them are fine. I'd expect the same of the Gold Coast.

Itch: You are in an excellent location for some free transportation, and Casino hopping. You can cross the street for the Palms, you can cross the parking lot for the RIO, and you can ride the free shuttles to the Orleans and/or Barbary Coast (center strip-walking distance to Ballys, Caesars, Bellagio, Flamingo, ride the monorail (free) to the MGM which is across the street from NYNY, Excalibur, & the Trop. I am sorry I cannot comment on the rooms, but as Lee said there have been some nice improvements in the Casino area. Perhaps you can give some of your insight as to the rooms when you file your trip report. Have fun - Wendell

P.S. Itch: if you enjoy CW music, Sharon Haynes stars in "Honkey Tonk Angels" (at the Gold Coast) - she sounds exactly like Patsy Clines and show is only around 10 bucks. Wendell

Thanks for your comments! I'm aware of the benefits of staying at GC as you have stated - walk to Rio (where we have a $40 check to cash from joining the slot club last time) and Palms (which I haven't seen yet and I can't wait). The shuttle bus might not be used since we will have a car. Of course I have my POV coupon 2-for-1 for the Ports O' Pigout (oops, mean Ports O'Call) buffet, and the other coups for Palms/Rio.

However, one of our party is my MOTHER and she is quite particular. A Bellagio kind of lady. She made me swear not to book anything downtown frown and we are great fans of Downtown. So we are staying at Barbary Coast the first week and she is slightly unhappy. We stayed there last year and she thought it was old, dumpy, dark, derilics hanging around outside, just my kind of place! It reminds me of Downtown! LOL!

The prices for all the decent strip joints are too high the second weekend, so after price shopping, the cheapest ones were Riviera, Arizona Charlies, Gold Coast. I chose GC for being so close to other decent choices (also like Downtown) since I'm the late night gambler/partier in the group and I like to stumble back to my room at any time I please.

I'd still like to hear about the rooms (any upgradable rooms?) from someone who's been there. Thanks again.

Itch, your mama isn't going to be too happy. frown

I stayed at the GC last year ....the rooms are not that different from the Barbary Coast in layout and size, although they are slightly "brighter." The downside of my visit was the smell as soon as I stepped off the elevator on my smoking floor.

Having said that, I may be staying there again next month. eek I don't think I've ever won that much at the GC, but I just like the place! The location is good, the buffet is good after the remodel, the Cortez Room puts on a good steak/prime rib dinner, and the gambling choices suit me ...ie, lots of full-pay quarter DB & DW and some decent nickel choices if the luck went south<g>.

Have you checked out rates at the Orleans for your visit? They are usually just a few $$ more than the Gold Coast, and mama might be happier there. smile Another possibility is the Flamingo ...you can get some good offers ($35-55) just by signing the guest book on their web site.

I;ve stayed at the Orleans twice and liked it. You might want to call them for rates or check their website which is accessed from the talkvegas home page.
The Gold Coast is ok, but I doubt that your mother would like it. The Orleans is nicer if the price is right.

You are all as helpful as I thought you would be! I talked to my mother and she said to keep the reservations as they are - first weekend at Barbary Coast and second weekend at Gold Coast. I have given her fair warning about "getting what you pay for" and reminded her that she is only in the room to shower and sleep.

She could have gotten Bellagio for 249/249/169 the three nights and turned it down! She was hoping to talk me into paying those rates but I won't, even though they are good rates for the weekend. It's easier if we stay at the same place.

Besides, it won't hurt her for once to see how the "rest of us" live!
