   2 weeks????
   2 weeks????
Has anyone on talkvegas ever stayed in Vegas for 2 weeks or longer, on vacation? I am thinking of combining two of my trips into one big Vega-thon.
I'm not talking about living there, I'm talking about vacationing. Meaning hotels, rental cars, and dinning out, vacationing!
I'm looking for thoughts...do's and don'ts sort of thing. I'm not 100% sure I want to try this, but I have the opertunity......ideas please....

Lee - I've never spent more than 5 days there. However, I'd like to give the 2 week thing a try!

Don't you think 2 weeks would be a bit long? Could you afford to do this?

Just curious.

Lee,
I've done 10 days, and it was still too short, 2 weeks is only 4 days more, it might be just right.

Be sure to take time to drive out and look at homes for sale. You might change your mind and stay. Especially if the weather back home is bad.

Two weeks may even shorten the to do list instead of making it longer. Go for it! My longest visit was 7 days and it was not long enough.

Lee,

Our longest stay in LV was a 10-day visit. I did not think it was too long, but Fred did not agree. He said, "It's like eating chocolate". He likes chocolate, but too much makes him sick. He mentioned something else, but it is not suitable for this board.

For me it made a lot of sense to stay longer because of the lengthy flight.

Lee,

I think the longest we've stayed was Friday to the following Sunday.

A good friend went for 2+ weeks once. You'll likely have to switch hotels to get everything comped. Most places won't comp that long a stay (which doesn't make sense to me).

I'm not sure I want to do this, but I can now take longer vacations from my work at one time. I am weighing the factor of being a longer vacation and not going as often verses, continuing my current LV schedule and doing Vegas every 2 months or so. Hmmmm.
It's really a flight saving measure, as I get older I don't enjoy the flights as much anymore.

Lee,

The only way you'll know is to give it a try.

Sometimes I'll be on vacation and can't wait to get home to work. Other times the week ends and I feel like I'm just getting unwound.

Lee,

Personally, I envy the fact that you can go to Vegas once every two months or so. We only make it out once a year and it makes for a looong year. We usually take the kids somewhere for spring break and then again for a week long summer vacation and those are wonderful times but we love our Vegas escapes. We would take many short trips spread over time vs. one long trip a year any day. Of course the other side of the coin is with so much to do in and around Vegas you could spend a month straight and still not see and do it all.

Senator,

I have always seemed ready to pack it in by the end of a vacation but I have to say this past trip I was really sad on Saturday evening knowing we were flying out in less than 20 hours. I mean, I really noticed it this time. I was not ready to get home to my own bed and bathroom and back to the grindstone. We were enjoying our time with each other so much. It was the most relaxed, pressure free vacation we have ever had (we went on short notice and had no schedule or plans, just free and easy). I have never felt like that before. Before I was always ready at the end. Not this time. I found myself wishing I could call back home and have everyone fly out to Vegas instead, forever. Sighhh..... frown

I'm afraid that I'm on the other side of the fence, and agree with Fred. The longest I have ever stayed was five nights, and by that fifth day I was wondering why I hadn't booked to go home after four nights, which seems to be about right for me. I absolutely love to go to Vegas, but if I'm there too long the fun of it starts to diminish. I guess part of the fun for me is to be able to zip out and back....and as often as possible!! smile It's really weird, but, even though I prefer to stay a shorter time, I'm beginning to plan, or at least think about, another trip after I've been home a couple weeks.

Lee, I see your point about combining the two trips for savings on time in flight and also the savings in the extra flight cost. If you are thinking you might enjoy the two weeks, you should try it once. Would you stay in Vegas the whole time, or take a side trip or two? I know I could enjoy a longer trip if I were going to go on a side trip or two.

Whatever you do, have a great time.

Susan

Lee,

For me, the only way to even consider a two week trip would be to plan several side trips as mentioned by Susan. In the past we have tried to work in at least one per trip but have not always done so. Things you might consider that we have enjoyed: Black Canyon Raft Trip, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Zions Nat'l Park, Mt. Charlestown, Hoover Dam and Laughlin. I probably missed a few but these should be food for thought.

I would suggest as others have done, GO FOR IT!!! In my humble opinion, tis' better to have reached the end of the road and regret something you have tried than to have reached the end of the road and regret something you have not tried.

JUST DON'T USE THOSE VOUCHERS TO FLY SOUTHEAST!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Things in Vegas change so much and so quickly, I think I would prefer the shorter and more frequent trips. Have fun whichever you choose.

I agree with Susan also. The combining of trips has logical advantages. It also has disadvantages that you might not realize until you try a two week trip. As Wendell mentioned, things change alot. You would probably have a more exciting "to do" list if you did more shorter trips. And you would have more anticipation/satisfaction regarding your Vegas "fix".

One other disadvantage is that we wont get as many trip reports from you.

Still, I think you should try it and let us know how you like it.

We visit Las Vegas three to four trips a year. Most of the time it's a Sunday through Thursday, four night trip. We did stay until Friday for a long time but the crowd of business travelers going home on Friday afternoon was too much. I like the weekdays as it is easier for a table seat and what have you! There have been trips(often) when I am ready to leave after three nights. Besides, odd as it may sound, I miss my dog!... smile

We usually stay for 8 days but go about three times a year from the east coast. As several of you have mentioned, we do not spend all of our time doing LV things. We plan on several side trips every time we go and have done some great southwest sightseeing. Besides the GC, north and south rims, we have also spent several days in San Diego, Canyonlands and Arches NP's, Death Valley, Bryce, Zion, Mojave Desert National Preserve, etc. There is so much to do in that area that we are never bored and ready to come home. If anything, we always wish that we had planned a longer vacation.

Even though I think about moving to Las Vegas at times, I don't think I'd want to vacation there for 2 weeks unless I had a LOT of non-gaming activities planned. My Reno and Tahoe trips are almost entirely gaming trips, and I reach my saturation point after 2-3 days ... my Las Vegas trips are usually 3-5 days, and I almost always wish I had more time<g>, but that is because I'm involved in other activities. I do agree with the advice given ... it would be better to try it than to wonder 10 years later if you should have tried a 2-week trip. smile

Hi Lee!
I haven't been on for awhile, but I'm back.
I just wanted to say that if you are used to going to LV every so often, I'm sure you'll go into withdrawal when the next trip would usually be rolling around. My advice is, do the two week thing just to say you did, but you'll probably be itching to get back long before you plan to.
We always go in the spring, and one year we decided to do a spur of the moment trip in February. BIG MISTAKE! Sure, it was fun while I was there, but when the snow here starts to melt, and you can feel Spring in the air, I feel Vegas in the air. I went into such withdrawal, I was sooo down.
So you go boy!!! Do your 2 weeks, but I'll bet you'll be back sooner than you plan
Lynne in the Falls wink

I was watching Travel Channel last night and some of the new thing going on in Vegas were aired such as: the "teeter Totter" on top of the Stratosphere, an expansion of Star Trek Experience at the Hilton, new shops in the Forum Shops of caesars and the Fashion Street Mall, the monorail to open soon (one comment was made that this would eventually run from McCarran to Freemont Street) Margaritaville, if it is not alreadys open, at the Flamingo, the German Beer Garden should be opening, the Hard Rock now has a luxury suite one can have for a mere $7,500.00 per night, etc. etc. Have fun. Wendell,

I watched the same show last night a learned a few things. I wasn't aware of teh new shopping mall connecting Mandalay Bay and the Luxor. I might stop in for a shave some time.

The girl at the Hard Rock mentioned this suite being a great place to entertain 75 of your closest friends. That's only $100 per head and it would be a GREAT place to party. Maybe we should consider it for next year's Thanksgiving meet!

Lee,
I say GO FOR IT!!! The worst that can happen is you still go back for your shorter trips throughout the year...thus making your total time in Veags for the year longer than usual and there's nothing wrong with that.

The wife and I just spent a week there and it was a little to long for us but that is mainly because we have the 1 and 6 year old at home. As they grow, the two week idea would become more appealing. Looking VERY forward to your TR on that...if you can remember it all wink laugh
