Carol Lombard Plane Crash (by JMT)
Actress Carol Lombard and her mother were among the dead in the crash of a DC3 that took off out of Las Vegas and crashed into Mount Potosi, 30 miles southwest of Las Vegas. Carol was on a war effort mission (rally) in Illinois and was on her way home to California. The plane made a fuel stop in Las Vegas. Since World War II was in progress, navigation beacons were turned off and the pilots drifted off course. The crash occured on this date in 1942.
