The First Seal (by JMT)
The first territorial seal of Nevada was approved on this date in 1861. The seal was described as "mountains, with a stream of water coursing down their sides, and falling on the over-shot wheel of a quartz mill at their base; a miner leaning on his pick, and upholding a US flag, with a motto expressing the two ideas of loyalty to the Union and the wealth to sustain it, Volens et Potens. (Willing and able)
