El Rancho Implosion (by JMT)
The El Rancho closed down in 1992 and had plans of becoming a space ship for a project called Starship Orion and another ambitious plan of two big hotel towers shaped like cowboy boots to be called Countryland USA. All of those projects failed and now Turnberry and Fountainbleau occupy it's space. Anyway, the El Rancho came down on this date in the year 2000.

Thomas E. Hull was born on this date in 1893, and while he is not commonly known for his earlier resort properties, El Rancho Fresno, and El Rancho Sacramento, or the other 8 restorts, his El Rancho Vegas made him the father of the Las Vegas Strip, as it was the first resort there.

OJ Convicted in Las Vegas (by JMT)
OJ Simpson was found guilty on all 12 charges, including felony kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy at the Clark County Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas on this day in 2008. The verdict comes thirteen years to the day after he was acquitted of double murder charges, spurring many conspiracy theories.
